Virgin Flies!




Now that Steve Fossett is almost all the around the world, it's time to reflect on the other Virgin high-flier: VirginMobileUSA.

MVNOs are a trend I wish I'd seen earlier. VMUSA has punched through the 3 million subs level and is the #1 source of new adds for Sprint PCS. VMUSA is probably doing better than most facilities-based carriers (ugly word) with nonvoice data services. Supposedly more 70% of VMUSA subs use text messaging, 60% use extra content ('Pimp My Ride,' 'Joke of the Day,' SongID and Rescue Ring, and VMUSA claims 8% of the U.S. ring-tone market.

MVNOs remedy the lackluster consumer product marketing of the carriers, as introducing well a slimmer cost structure.
